I actually did this for the six weeks. I ate more tuna than ever before and I lost about 45 pounds in one month.  It melted off so fast people at work thought I was ill!   I did feel great, but then I ate some cheese and made me terribly ill.  The plan works as long as you keep doing it and do eat when and what you're supposed to. I didn't do any exercises at all. At first it was difficult to eat all the protein and give up caffeine and sugar but after a week or two it became so much easier. This is a great program as long as you put in the effort.

I have no criticism of the exercise portion of this program, however I have great concern regarding the diet format.  First of all, the restriction on salt means that you are primarily losing water weight for the first 6 weeks, NOT fat.  (I'm an RN, so I'm somewhat knowledgable, here!)  Second, the severity of the diet restriction makes this a program that probably will lead to significant weight loss, however it's probably not a plan that you will be able to stick to for the rest of your life, so the weight is probably just going to come back with some more added to it.  That means yo-yo weight loss and gain which is worse for you than staying where you are.  You're better off cutting back on your portions, eliminating sweets, reducing fat consumption and increasing the amount of fruits and vegies you eat, along with the exercise.  One other thing...there is a horrendous amount of food preparation.  If you're young, healthy and around the house all the time, then that's probably no problem.  However, if you're like I am...handicapped with a very painful condition that makes standing long enough to brew a pot of coffee a miserable experience then this program is definitely NOT for you!

I have just finished my first week on this program, and discovered this review website as I was looking for other online resources.  I am glad to hear that it worked for so many people, but have to ask myself -- is it really so much work to cook ahead?  I've made chicken to eat at meals that are at work, and it takes 2 minutes to pull it out of the freezer and put it in the fridge to defrost, and then 2 more minutes to put it in the oven, and then maybe 10 minutes to cut it up into the correct sizes...  I bake a few sweet potates (which completely take care of my sweet tooth) at the same time, and steam some veggies in my steamer...  No attention or work involved!

First things first, this program is not for the faint of wills. This program isn't one of convience or ease either. It requires planning on the part of the whole heart committed person. I am 25 years old and really never had a weight problem until after my daughter was born. I don't look over weight, but for what I was use to 168lbs and 5'8 was too much. It was really hard to cut all the salt and REAL sugar out of my diet, but thank heaven for sugar and salt subtitutes. I had great results of 5lbs in three day to start.AS far as plans go, I am in the medical profession so I have seen it all. It's not dangerous to the body, just a huge will power stuggle if you are a soda drinker. Great thing is after you have lost the weight you want, you can slowly tweek the plan to be easier to work with. I will also mention I have bloodsugar problems, so I actually had to add more carbohydrates than originally planned. It's a KEEPER, as long as you can plan and have the will power...and money.

I found it very difficult to do, eat 6 small meals a day on my work schedule. It does work though. Your not consuming very many calories and it cuts out all the fats and sugars that would be found in most peoples diets.  If you follow it correctly your bound to lose weight.

Success requres hard work, and determination. I purchased the Six Week Body Makeover in 2001 and have been on the plan since. Simply put, when I purchased this product, my weighed 295 pounds, my waist size was 46/47 inches, and my stamina was zero. Now I weigh 200 lbs, wear pant size 34 inches, run an average of 6 miles 5 days a week, play soccer twice a week, and do body sculpting about 2 times a week. Call me crazy, but I am in better physical condition now than I ever was. My advice is simple - buy the product, keep to the plan, and have fun doing it. Stop the whinning! By the way, I am still on the plan do not plan on stopping.

I have been on this program for 2 weeks.  I have tried other diets and have not been succesful.  As of today I have lost 12 pounds.   Yes, this is a time consuming plan.  I have 4 children, work full time(12 hour shifts), and have a husband who cannot cook.  The key to succes on this program is planning.  I involve my children in meal prep and make a game out of it.  As far as excercise, again, It's a game for them.  They think it's fun to watch mom on the treadmill or pulling the funny rubberbands.  If there is a will, there is a way.   This has changed my life for the better, made me focus on myself for a change.   I highly recommend this product.  It's a whole new lifestyle.

I just wanted to say that I have been on the 6 week body makeover now for just over 4 weeks and have already lost 25 pounds!  It really is a great program and does indeed work as long as you can follow it.  About a year and a half ago I was over 350 pounds. I was able to bring that down to 240 by myself because I have always been a muscular guy and train everyday.  However before I got the Michael Thurmond plan I was stuck for several months and it had seemed that my progress had stopped.  This program really helped me.  I highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about getting healthy and losing weight.  Very effective as long as you have the will power and plan your meals effectively. Luckily I have the support of my fiance, without her help with my meals and keeping me motivated it would have been much harder. I am closer to my goals then ever before.

I purchased this diet awhile back.  To tell you the truth I was very excited!  I was doing really good and in 2 weeks I lost 13lbs.   However, this plan is very restricted.  I don't think it is worth the money!   It's just tells you things you should already know or your doctor may have already advised you of.  On the plan you can not have salt or sugar.  I think you need to have a little sugar and salt but do it wisely.  No dairy either.  I was getting very concerned about calcium.  It does open your eyes to eat healthy and be careful of what you are putting in your mouth.  But this plan is not for me.  I was always hungry, and felt deprived.  It came very close to me binge eating.   So I took myself off the plan before I did started eating everything in my sight.   I am still eating healthy, just not as restricted.  I  would not recommed this.  If you need to lose weight, go see your doctor.  He will tell you the plan that is best for you and your health.

I've been on the 6 week body makeover for exactly 1 week now and lost 12 pounds.  I know a lot of that is water, but I feel so much better.   This is what I need, a diet that really helps me to understand portion control.   Unlike those prepackage food programs, in the 6 week body makeover, you pretty much choose your own foods, within limitations.  You cook it to your specifications. And the food is fresher and healthier.  Sure, if you need to lose a lot of weight the protein you eat is mostly poultry and fish.  Luckily, I'd rather eat that than anything else, anyway.  But I am optimistic about this plan. I plan on sticking to it for as long as it takes, even for the rest of my life in a similar form. Also, don't listen to "amature nutritionalists", who say there is no calcium or fats in this diet.  Tuna is on the list of foods, it is loaded with good oils - Omega 3 fatty acids.  The required "greens" in this diet are the proper way to get calcium, not dairy products.  Check the web if you don't know about the relationship between calcium and protein.  Also, soy is allowed.  It states in the manual that tofu can be subsituted ounce per ounce with any other protein source.  Just wanted to rebut those previous comments.

I am 5'2 and 199 lbs.  I never had a weight problem until my mid 20's.  I recently purchased the six week makeover and have been on the diet for 8 days and have lost 6 lbs.   The first 2 days were a little tough but the key is to experiment with foods and to eat all of your meals.  A friend is on the diet as well but she is not eating all of the meals per day and is not losing weight.   So far I would say that it is a good diet.

I think there may be a tendency to try to make this too regimented.  As long as you eat every 2-3 hours you should be fine.  I work full time and have a busy life, but I planned ahead the first weekend (first two days) on the diet.  I've only been on the program 3 days, but I've lost a solid 10 pounds (no exaggeration)--couldn't stop myself from weighing out of curiosity because my clothes are so much looser. I'm having no difficulty drinking the water, either, but I've been on Weight Watchers many times so I'm used to it.  I'm so encouraged right now I can't imagine not continuing on this program.

I bought this diet thinking it was something different. I believe it's not a healthy eating plan. No oil is allowed whatsoever, (We need fats to process the fat soluable vitamins) No Dairy allowed..Hello? So I guess we don't need calcium. No Soy. Well the heck with heart health. How can you help but not lose weight being so undernourished? If you look at his face, it's all deep creased from not enough fat in his diet.  Some people on the forum complained of dry skin, and hair and had to add oil.  The diet is not a healthy eating plan. Another scam.

I tried the makeover and lost 30 pounds and stopped.   I'ts been a year since I have been on it and I have not gained the weight back, I am going back on it to lose another 30.  It is VERY time consuming, but worth it.

15 May 2005 - Libby of Florida, USA writes:

I purchased the program last year and did it for two weeks.   I didn't lose more than 5 pounds, but I looked much thinner.  Now I am doing it again.  I am completeing my second week and have only lost 5 pounds.  At this rate, I will not lose the promised 30 pounds. Since 30 pounds is all I have to lose, I am patient and will complete the 6 weeks, and then continue until I am done.  I think it makes sense and it wonderful, except that I believe a healthier plan includes some fat free dairy.  People complain about the prep time. For me this is not an issue. I work full time and teach exercise classes as well.  I grill packages of chicken breasts to keep handy, and I buy frozen fish to store.  I do use frozen veggies and have no trouble at all chopping up lettuce in advance and bagging it for salads.  The only area I "cheat" on is that I use some fat free dressing when I have a big salad.   It makes sense nutritionally to eat every few hours to rev up the metabolism.   Too many people starve themselves and then when they go on a diet nothing happens because the body gets scared it will starve.  After this I wil go on Weight Watchers for maintenance.  There I will be allowed to have a more expansive menu, but still keep within guidelines that will help me stay thin.

No one ever said that dieting was easy! If you expect it to be easy, then you deserve to be let down- sorry, but it's true. Yes, you have to eat every 2 or 3 hours and yes, you basically have to drown yourself in 100 oz of water a day. These are rules in any diet/program- no different. This is an excellent product & if your'e willing to make that commitment, then this is for you. I lost nearly 60 Ibs in 8 or 9 months.

Tremendous product, practical and common sense and it works in all areas from effective and sensible weight loss that lasts to good cardio health and strength training/ body sculpting. There should be a disclaimer that your food bills will go up and that you need to be able to make time to cook. It's a hectic schedule, trying to eat every 2-3 hours and no small committment. Highly recommended.

My wife purchased the program 5 weeks ago.  I've lost 32 pounds so far.  My wife has only lost half as much weight (but her change is the one that people notice first).  We are extremely pleased with the results.  Although the first couple of weeks were pretty rough, our bodies have adjusted to the amount of food and the amount of exercise.  We have every intention of staying with the program until we reach our target weights...and using these concepts to maintain those target weights.

The diet worked a little for me, but unless you can actually afford to watch the clock and be sure to eat on time every 3 hours, then it's not one I would recommend.
