Good alternative to walking outdoors

23 Dec 2007 - Debi of Kansas, USA writes:

I've had my Gazelle Elite for over five years and have used it quite a bit. The pros: it is a very convenient alternative to walking outside on country roads in bad weather. You can get a great cardio workout with this machine. There is no jarring impact on knees or tender feet. The cons: it is very noisy. I can't keep my feet in place on this thing; they always slide up against the front edge which is very uncomfortable. Tony L. is just plain annoying to watch on the videos. Problems: I've worn out one of the pistons and the monitor quit after just a few months. Suggestions: You can definitely work up a sweat on this machine, great for cardio without the impact of a treadmill. Don't expect it to be whisper quite as advertised-it is very loud. Save money by not purchasing the videos, the exercises aren't that great and Tony L. is too loud and flashy to be motivating. You can get a good workout without the videos.

Fingers Crossed

14 Sep 2007 - Lee of Maryland, USA writes:

My brother has this at his house and when I was over from England on a visit I decided to give it a go. I am in my mid 30's and I found that I am spreading out around the waist. I started using it daily at first but it was to much so I switched to every other day. I enjoy using it and I have found that I can do 15 mins on this while I can only manage 3 mins on my exercise bike back home. When I get back to the UK I am going to order one. The down side is Tony Liddel, He really iritates me. He is far to jolly for my liking. I would prefer someone a little more sedate.

The best thing I have ever done!

21 Jun 2007 - Danielle of Illinois, USA writes:

I bought the Gazelle Freestyle Elite about a year ago. This is honestly the best thing I have ever bought. I use it everyday for about 30 minutes. In the first ten weeks I lost about 10 pounds! I couldn't believe it. I love this product because it has made me proud of myself for sticking with an actual exercise that is actually fun. My energy has boosted and so has my confidence. I'm not ashamed of the way I look anymore. The only bad thing about this product is how it hurts my feet but I just think of how this product works and it's all worth it.

Foot pain and lots of noise

16 Mar 2007 - Emma of New York, USA writes:

I use the gazelle to warm up before aerobics for 30 minutes a day. The gazelle is good to exercise without high impact. I am moderately fit, and have it at the second resistance level. Number one problem is that it makes my feet ache. After the first ten minutes, I have to take a break to rest my feet. The machine is very noisy. The infomercial stresses about how quiet it is, not true. The gazelle does move around a lot. This can be remedied by using an exercise mat underneath the gazelle. I paid about $260 for mine, it was really hard to get up the stairs, I had to bring it up in pieces. Putting it together is not too difficult, the video explains assembly well enough. Even with music, I cannot wait to get off this thing, but as I only use it to warm up, and not as my primary workout, it is not that bad.

Tony little GAzelle freestlye

11 Sep 2006 - Anonymous of New Jersey, USA writes:

I bought this with great excitement...It was wonderful ,I enjoyed every time when I used it...But within 3-4 months My right knee started to ache...I was not able to climb even stairs...Even a normal walk...now after a year...A continuos outdoor walking has reduced my knee joint pain...I dont know whether a vigourous excersise did not suit me or what...but a natural walk is far better. Sorry to mention this.I was not happy with tony little gazelle freestlye ...I bought it for 179 USD. I dont know what to do with it.

I pondered buying a gazelle for a year.  I have trouble with my left hip/thigh.  I have been walking for 30 years and my Doctor told me I had something similar to tennis elbow.  He said walking on pavement was bad.  I went to the stores and tried treadmills, bikes, recumbant bikes and ellipticals.  The gazelle is the only machine that didn't make me hurt. I have had mine for 1 1/2 weeks and absolutely love it.  It is so much fun, I sweat, heart beat goes up.  It is well worth the money.  I have ordered the additional videos to have a variety in my workouts.

19 Oct 2005 - Evan of Illinois, USA writes:

While I enjoy using this machine, there are severl things that bother me about it. First, as some others have mentioned, it is not even close to "whisper quiet," as advertised. The resistance pistons huff and rattle, and that are various other squeaks and groans. This I can tolerate. What drives me absolutely CRAZY using this is that it slowly slides backwards over my wood floors as I work out. The two rubber pads in the back have completely detached from the machine, so I have to position the precisely under the feet before each workout. At least several times during the workout, I have to stop, get off the machine, and repositon the pads under the feet. I have tried placing the unit on a small area rug, but this only exacerbates the problem, sending me backwards at a rate that could get me across the room in about 2 minutes. I have all wood floors in my apartment, so I really don't have an alternative short of going out to purchase a rubberized workout mat that will hopefully prevent this from happening. Lastly, I really wish there were more resistance settings. I used to own a NordicTrak cross-country skiing machine, which I felt gave me a better workout and allowed me to target different areas of the body more effectively. With that machine, you could fine-tune the tension in MANY different combinations and at many different levels of resistance, as opposed to the Gezelle's 4 setting. I do feel that I get a decent workout, but I'm a bit disappointed with the quality of the machine give the $450+ price tag after tax and delivery. It's much quieter than my NordicTrak was, but not as quiet as advertised. For those of you with hard floors, be prepared for this backwards motion. I wish I still had my NordicTrak, because given the choice, I'd use that over the Gazelle.

The Gazelle Elite is a wonderful piece of equipment, and the best investment I have made in a while.  HOWEVER!  One thing that annoys me is the noise from the pistons.  I think it should be made clear in the infomercials just how noisy they are.  By no stretch of the imagination is this thing quiet!  No sleeping babies in ANY room! But having said that I wouldn't give up my gazelle elite for anything.  I turn the music up loud, and apologise to the nighbours an hour later when I have dragged myself off the thing. Better than a treadmill, better than a stationery bike, better than a cross traininer... I 100% recommend this product - but don't expect it to be quiet :-)

I cannot tell you how much I love this machine!  I use it every day - for an hour, if not more.  It is addicting and so easy to use.  I have bad shoulders and a bad knee.  With this machine, I have no pain or discomfort and can work out as long as I wish. Super Machine - Great Results!

Four years ago I bought the original model and loved it but LOVE this one much more.  If you use it faithfully it really does work.  I had a back injury and it puts absolutely no pressure on my pelvic area.  I got a bit lazy and quit using it for a while but have now started back in the last week and kick myself for ever stopping in the first place.  I feel physically soooo much better just in a week.  You do have to combine sensible eating as with any exercise program.  I have mine set up in my bedroom so I see it every day.  But it is such a fun workout that I don't feel like I have to force myself to use it.  I attached a prtable cd player to it so all I do is put on the headphones and away I go.  Would reccomend it to anyone.

I really love this product.  I have fibromyalgia and my hips and knees cannot take running or walking so this is great.  It keeps me limber, I can "walk" as little or as much as I want, and I can really feel it in my arms and chest too when I combine the arm movements with the legs.  I only wish they had a DVD instead of a video to watch.

25 Jun 2005 - Joseph of New York, USA writes:

I purchased this open box model off their web site after a few weeks wait listed.  It arrived with the parts pretty disorganized, but I was still able to assemble it properly.  One of the rubber mats did not fit right, and after email to their customer service, I got a prompt reply eager to replace whatever parts I felt were substandard.  This is probably the only infomercial product I have ever purchased that I'm 110% satisfied with.  After throwing out a useless Fliptrak and terrible Orbitrek, I'm finally relieved to finally find a low impact full body exercise I can really enjoy on a regular basis.  Keep in mind, few if any of these infomercial machines ever give you the same workout as traditional no-gimmick exercises.   But if using this machine helps motivate me to exercise more frequently, then it's worth the money for that reason alone.  I strongly advise you get the more expensive Elite model.  I've tried the regular one in [] and I'm so glad I didn't buy that flimsy one.  Tony Little does not take himself too seriously as you can tell from his Geico commercial, but this product is no joke, it's really that good if you plan on using something regularly for your cardiovascular health, burning excess calories, and muscle tone, and have the room in your home to accommodate it's 3'x6' footprint, about the same space as a twin bed.  The Elite model is heavy duty, tension adjustable, with a great computer that includes Pulse & Heart Rate Monitor build in to the handles.  I tested it against my Polar watch and chest band, and found the Elites computer to be fairly accurate.  The foot pads are well positioned and roomy, and I often use it while barefoot.  I'm so glad I found a wonderful way to sustain my active heart rate on a machine quiet enough to watch TV which is a great way to time yourself by working out for two 10-minute sets, and use commercials to take a few minute break between sets.   I've used my Elite 20 minutes every other day for nearly 2 years now, and the machine looks and works good as new.  Some of the exercises Tony Little shows you, such as using it backwards or standing sideways takes a bit of practice before you'll find those useful, so don't attempt it till you are comfortable with the standard forward standing activities.  Being able to change the stress from your upper to lower body by simply shifting your weight forward or backwards is a wonderful way for me to sustain a longer workout.  Once my legs reach their Lactate threshold, I simply shift to my upper body, and by the time my arms and chest get fatigued, I'm ready to shift back down to my legs again.  Most full body machines such as Elliptical, or Treadmills with arm action, are not as elegant as the Gazelle in allowing you to shift the stress on your body without needing to pause to adjust your machine.

I bought my Gazelle Freestyle Elite from a friend a few months ago who could no longer use it due to back injury, and finally got it out of the back room and did a one-mile workout.  I dont have any of the tapes or cd's or anything, but i still got a great workout and got my heart rate up. The only complaints I have is that its noisier than the infomercial says. Plus it is VERY hard to maneuver, it took me about 20 minutes to move from room to room.--Great machine though

I am service connected disabled veteran, and suffer from agonizing low back pain from arthritis, as well as knee problems (5 surgeries so far).   Needless to say, I am very limited physically.  The Gazelle seemed to be the answer to my prayers - low impact, smooth.  I have owned it for three years and have only used it five times. It hurts my back severely (unless I position myself just so). Because of this it is really a pain to use - in more ways than one.  Additionally, it causes the arch area of my feet to cramp up with such painful severity that I would need to soak then and massage them for at least 20 minutes afterward.  I came on line today to find out how muchI can sell it for to just get rid of it!

I borrowed the Gaselle Freestyle Elite from a neighbor a few years ago. The workout is absolutely addicting! It's perfect to put in front of the television set and workout while watching your favorite shows. It was only a few days before I saw amazing results on my entire body. It's been a few years since I gave the product back to my neighbor, but I certainly plan on buying one soon. There's not another product like this one out there. It works great, and I absolutely recommend it.

28 May 2005 - Edward of Ohio, USA writes:

We purchased the unit a couple of years ago. I must admit it is a pretty good machine. The box came. I opened it up, WOW!! 1 MILLION PIECES! I popped in the tape, grabbed the instructions, and set to work. Very complicated procedure. I rebuild automobiles for a living. I have never had to tear one back apart because the thing went together wrong. (4 hours later) I am done. It is together. I cannot use it now, because it is now 2:AM, and I just had an extensive workout putting the thing together! I go to bed. The next day I watch the videos and try it out. Cool! This is fun! I stop when the tape tells me to. Uh, Oh! I can not move my legs! This really was one heck of a leg workout! I am still trying to figure out how the upper body gets it's workout. I have not used it much. You see they sent me VHS, I asked for DVD. My VCR is now broken down so I am on my own figuring out the rest of the exercises. I would reccomend this machine to anyone who really wants to commit. Caution:#: Not Intended For Smokers, Or Asthmatics!! Do not buy if you have Asthma! My wife can not use it because of that reason. I seen the infomercial on this thing. Funny...  It does not store, and move around as easy as they show on T.V. hmmm... Oh well, It should get a person in shape. Especially if they have no room, and need to store in between uses. Whew! Now that is a workout!! Laters!

This product has only recently become avilable in the UK and I have to say not before time. Its a strong, sturdy, quality piece of kit thats built like a tank and the power pistons really make the differnece. You can get a good cardio going. Putting it together was a breeze. Just follow the instuctions on the dvd. I absolutely love it! I've had my elite for a week so far, using it for 20mins at the end of the day. already im starting to feel an improvement. I'm asthmatic and was continually wheezing and coughing but using this machine has really improved the strength of my lungs in only a few days. It has also started to fix a lower back problem i've had for over 8 years where every other excercise machine I've tried has failed. If youre considering giving the elite a test drive I say go for it! If you use it regularily, (and you only need 20mins a day), you wont regret it! I really dont know what i'd do if I had to give mine back! One thing though. Tony Little is REALLY agravating. To the point that i cant watch the trainer dvd's anymore!!!

One week ago today I recieved my Gazelle Elite, put it together and did my first workout. I must say I am very pleased with the concept and ease of exercise. I am 67 and find this very easy on my joints. However as much as I love this product I wish it were as quiet as advertised. I have taken it apart, applied lubrication and still have some squeaks. The pistons are a bit noisy also. Would I send the product back? No, but I do wish that the manufacture of this product were of better quality due to the price. If there is a similar piece of equipment that is manufactured of higher quality I wish I knew, I would buy it. Like I said the workouts on this machine are great, especially for us older folks.

My family purchased this exercise with an open mind. Since then i enjoy the low impact on your joint that I have experienced. I have spoken highly of this machine till one of the parts broke. A simple piece that many can see breaking.   The composite plastic piece that the pistons attach to for the different strength settings. I have no problems with replaceing it but I cann't find a place that sells them. If you buy this equipment or any other for that matter check to see if relacement parts are offered for later on.
