Things to Know

13 Sep 2008 - Kilo of CO, usa writes:

Overall, the product is as advertised, no surprises. Beware that you need to be in good shape already to get full benefit from the product. It is made for someone in good shape to get better. If you aren't already fit, of if you're just getting back into shape, I recommend doing some of Tony's other workouts first (visit the website for other products -- they are great). Also, for those of us out there who are lifelong athletes, used to sweat and working hard, beware if you've never done YOGA before. I never had patience for the touchy feely side of that stuff, but Tony's approach is awesome. HOWEVER, due to my complete ignorance of any of the basic Yoga moves, I INJURED my back doing the exercises, a bulging disk, and I've never done that before. Months later, I took some personal yoga instruction and was told that this was common for us strong people who jump into yoga without assistance. There is a right way and a wrong way to do some poses, and Tony isn't a yoga instructor. Recommend if you have no experience at all with Yoga, humble yourself and do one session with someone who can teach you the finer points of the poses, yoga injuries are common , but if Yoga is done right the way Tony directs, it's great.

Good Program

27 Aug 2008 - Bailey of Arizona, United States writes:

P90X is a good all around fitness program. You'll get a nutrition guide that will rip you up if you stick to it. You'll get a pre-fitness test that allows you to evaluate your fitness level and determine if you are ready for the workout program. If not, don't fret. Included is a preperatory workout program to get you to that level. And, listen to Tony when he says "modify." I firmly believe that 90 percent of the population, regardless of the fitness level, will have to modify or shorten the workouts during the first few weeks. If you chose not to modify, get ready for some dexterity stifling soreness. I loved the series and have experienced fantastic results. Way to go Tony!

Ridiculous Results, Ridiculously Hard

20 Aug 2008 - Jon of Manitoba, Canada writes:

I ordered P90X because the results people were getting with it just blew any other program out of the water. I am one of the skinny guys who is actually trying to gain weight. The first week of P90X I couldn't complete any of the workouts, my arms, chest, back, legs, everything just didn't have enough in them to do even one rep near the end of the DVDs. My first time doing yoga I was cussing at Tony the whole time, I was so sore already and couldn't do about 1/4 of the positions. I figured though, that if I was this sore and the workouts were this hard, I was going to be super strong after completing the program. I was RIGHT!! I have worked out on and off for 10 years and would always plateau at about the same level of strength. P90X not only busted these plateaus, it gave me far more functional strength. The program uses mainly body weight for the chest and back and the strength you gain in those muscles is always backed up by core strength from holding your body straight during the moves. Also, most of the moves with weights are done standing. I started at 6' tall and 160 lbs (coat rack). After completing one round of P90X I am at 175 lbs and shredded. I didn't use the diet handbook as it seems to have been written with weight loss in mind. I follow the paleolithic or caveman regimen for my nutrition. Lots of meat and eggs, veggies, fruit, nuts and water and eat whenever you're hungry (really often when you're doing P90X). My favourite part of the program is Ab Ripper X. It is ridiculous. At the start, I couldn't complete any of the sets. By the end of 90 days, I was banging out full sets and I have never had such great abs. 8 pack city, going on 10. I am now in the second week of my second round of P90X and P90X+ is ordered and on the way for my third round. I am very very impressed with this program. The only disclaimer I would give is that to get ridiculous results you are going to work ridiculously hard, hence Tony's saying I hate it, but I love it 24 yrs old male

It works but.....

7 Aug 2008 - dan of ne, usa writes:

I love P90X but I think it lacks in the cardio department. However, P90X cds are worth the purchase! Much harder [] workout and an interval workout that is on par with the [] workout if you push it. If you think P90X lacks in tough cardio work, you must get the videos. They are awesome.

A new

31 Jul 2008 - Brian Kelly of CA, USA writes:

When it comes to working out, I have always been a give me weights or give me nothing kind of person. I've seen countless infomercials, magazine, and newspaper ads about all the latest workout gimmicks and gadgets. You've probably seen them, there's one that is endorsed by [] and []. There's the [] line of ab-ripping home-gym line of products and there's also the [] line. By the way, I was very close to purchasing one of the [] products, because it was the closest thing to weights I had seen on the market that could also be used at home. The problems with the aforementioned products/approaches, in my opinion, are: 1) Too Expensive 2) Require Storage Space 3) Can't be taken with you when traveling for work or leisure 4) Typically address improving only a few targeted areas of your body I liked weight rooms because of the myriad of choices available, plus the fact that building muscle has always been of primary importance to me. Now, I'm no muscle-head, but did you know that just the mere existence of muscle mass in the human body causes burning of calories? The more muscle, the more calories are burned. Let's face it, how many chubby body-builders do you know? So where is all of this leading? Well, not long ago, a friend of mine who is in his early 60's told me of a home exercise regimen that he had been utilizing. He already owns (and loves) a [] but stated that this home exercise regimen that he was following has put him into the best shape of his entire life. That really piqued my interest. He then told me that his 22 year-old nephew reported the same exact thing. I have a young son who was interested in playing in only his 2nd year of football, so I asked my friend if this exercise regimen was effective (and safe) for kids. He said absolutely. It works for men, women and kids alike. I purchased the program the next day. My son and I picked out a day that we would begin. My wife decided to also join in. So there we were, the three of us together in our living room, ready to give this thing a whirl. Well, it's now been about 2 months since we began, and I can now say that I'm a converted believer in the home-exercise approach to physical health, thanks to this incredible program. Here's a true story: After just the first week of workouts, I took my dad golfing. Normally, I would hit a drive about 240-250 yards. I was never what you would call a big hitter off of the tee. What happened this time was truly amazing. I started out by hitting a couple really long (by my standards, anyway) drives. My dad had his Golf GPS with him so we started measuring the distance. It turned out that I was hitting drives between 280-290 yards consistently, hole after hole. And one drive actually traveled 338 yards! I am not kidding. On one of the holes, after striking another 280+ drive, I looked back at my dad in amazement and simply shrugged my shoulders. He looked at me and said that it must be that new exercise program you've started. I had to agree. I had changed nothing. My swing was the same, my clubs were the same, even the brand and type of golf balls I used were all the same that I had used many times before. With this exercise program, you not only experience gains in muscle strength, but also in greater flexibility (which is why I believe my golf game had improved). Another true story: I cannot recall ever, in my entire life (including early childhood), being able to touch my toes without bending my knees. I have never had good flexibility. I've played nearly every sport imaginable but I couldn't touch my toes without bending my knees even if a gun was being held to my head. Well, after working out to this home-exercise program, I can now touch my toes without bending my knees. I'm nearly 44 years old at the time of writing this.

Tony is Great

19 Jun 2008 - Kay of Fairfield, CT, USA writes:

I purchased P90X about 4 months ago. I did pretty well the first month but I slacked off significantly because it is almost impossible for me to work out consistently 6-7 days per week because of my haphazard schedule. The workouts were challenging bu not at all as intimidating as they made it seem in the infomerial. The Yoga is the hardest thing I ever did. I still haven't made it thorough the whole thing once. There are moves that I can't do.. and I decided to follow his lean program because his regular outline is for guys because it focuses a lot on the upper body. as a woman, I need more help in the lower body. I did see some results and my overall cardio conditioning improved. I loved kempo Karate and Plyometrics. The Ab routine is world class. I own a ton of workout dvds and in home programs including [] and I could go on. None of these programs have given me enough results to keep me motivated long enough to achieve my goals. Tony Horton's P90X is the only program that has given results in a few weeks to make me want to get up and try again and push myself to see what I can really do. I need to lose 25lbs and I feel confident that I can do it. I am starting with Tony again next week. I will give an update after 90 days!

GREAT

21 May 2008 - Lisa of Franklin, TN, US writes:

Love it. Love Tony. Love the workouts. Love the food program. Love it all! I've been overweight all my life. Not athletic at all. Hate exercising. I've been doing P90X for 40 days with my husband and I ALMOST look forward to working out. This is huge. Tony is the best! I feel like all of the "peeps" are family in my living room. My husband is seeing more results than I am right now, but I know they are coming for me. I feel differences in my muscles and have lost 2" from my waist, but I'm so encouraged to continue - and it's because of Tony and how this program is designed. If I can do it - anyone can do it! Some workouts I still can't fully complete, but it's ok because I "do my best and forget the rest!" Improvements have and will continue to come!

Be ready to work really hard

30 Apr 2008 - Chris Turner of UT, USA writes:

I have a client who was actually a contest winner with Power90 who turned me on to this. He helped get me hooked up with the DVDs, the pull-up bar and the bands. I did the pull up bars on my own first for 6 weeks along with some push ups, running, then started the program. Glad I did some prep work, because without it, this might have been too much for me(39 years old). With it, it still was borderline too tough. But I have stuck with it, and after 3 weeks, it is getting easier to do the workouts. They still kick my butt, but I am getting stronger, more flexible and have more endurance. As for Ab Ripper, be prepared to not be able to do much at first, but if you stick with it, you will see improvements. I consider it money well spent, and plan on sticking with it after the initial 90 days. Have major surgery approaching (kidney transplant) and need to be fit for recovery. But even with the kidney problems, this has worked great for me. Money well spent.

Love the workout - not so much Tony

13 Feb 2008 - Willie of Washington, USA writes:

First off, I'm in love with the workouts in this program. I don't do the Keno or Yoga but replace those days with Plyo-X instead. I have totally seen a difference in my appearance (as has my wife) and actually look forward to getting home to workout these days. Tony annoys the stuffing out of me. (good thing that on the DVD I have the opption to just have his cues given instead of hearing him yabber on and on and on). Does the guys mouth ever stop????? NOPE it doesn't. I hope that being a personal trainer doesn't come with the mandate of being a egotistical jerk, because as I get closer and closer to my own certification, that is one thing that I will not allow myself to become. If I had a word of advise for the Beachbody people it would be this. Tell Tony to shut his trap a little more. WW

Excellent program

10 Jan 2008 - Matthew of Florida, USA writes:

In short, excellent program. Honestly, my results have been about 50% of the results shown in the commercial, but that's probably because I've been doing the program only about 3 day a week instead of the recommended 6. Instead of doing 6 days a week for 3 months, I've averaged 3 days a week for 6 months. I was already in decent shape when I started, and with the program I lost 10 pounds and gained strength and definition. I'm convinced that if I could dedicate 6 days a week I would get much better results. I think the program is designed to provide maximum results in a short period of time, but I'm using it as a long-term program instead and I'm very happy with it. Also, the intensity and variety has really helped me, maybe psychologically, through a difficult separation. I highly recommend it, 6 days a week if you can, or modified if you can't.

Worth a try

7 Dec 2007 - Maria of New York, USA writes:

I have been training for over 20 years. Although I understand muscle confusion and how to incorporate it on my own, I like to take a program and follow it every now and then just to mix things up in a different way. I have chosen to use most of the program at the gym and not at home. As a woman, I am able to use the assisted pull-up machine for that part of the program and this has worked well. The only place where I have really changed things up a bit is for the leg training - as a dancer I am not a fan of lunges and that is primarily what you can do at home -I follow the superset with other muscle groups but switch out the exercises to use those that taret the muscle group the program tries to hit (e.g. glutes vs hams, etc) and this worked. Have seen very good results but anyone wanting to use this should keep in mind that this is more for a long-time fitness enthusiast but not a beginner. Give it a go.

Excellent

5 Dec 2007 - Jerry of - -, Trinidad and Tobago writes:

I don't follow the program step by step but I am seeing great results! I am starting to see the 'rip' that they are talking about. The nutrition guide has help me alot with my eating habits. I know what to eat and what not to eat and also when to eat. I am not sure about the Recovery drink. I dont take it. This may sound funny but I usually take some dextrose and eat a handful of raisins after workout, with some whey. I give this program 5 stars. I dont go to the gym any more and this is great for people who are strapped for time, almost all of the workouts are 1 hr You need the chin up bar. I had to buy that separate thinking I didn't need it, but there are two back routines and you need the bar. I got the DVDs used [] You can get each program individually, but that doesn't make sense. Buy the full program. You must try this program if you are serious about fitness! J.

A great program, but you can hurt yourself

26 Nov 2007 - Dale of California, USA writes:

I have never been muscular, and until recently never had a lot of muscle tone. But after visiting the doctor's office, I was told to lose weight, exercise, and start eating healthier (Sound familiar, anyone?). I used another program to lose weight, made dietary changes, and got a very basic level of muscle tone. Then I saw a P90X infomercial and thought I, too, could be 'ripped' in 90 days. After checking out some of the testimonials on line, I purchased the system in August 2007 [] (saved $$ vs buying it direct through []). I am currently in the last week of the program. It was incredibly difficult to start (I could only do one pull-up at day 1). The tendency is to push and push to get faster results. I pulled a muscle in my right shoulder which is still on the mend 3 weeks later. One key is keeping good form. It's easy to try to squeeze an extra rep, only to end up straining a muscle doing it. The exercise bands are good for some moves, not so good for others. The P90X chin-up bar is a must have, as opposed to a typical single pull-up bar in the doorway. Today, day 86 of the 90 day program, I can do 10 pull-ups (my goal was 20, but perhaps that was too optimistic). My abs are hard as a rock. I don't have a six-pack yet, but there is signs of some definition. My advise to anyone attempting this program is to do the fit test first, a free download available at [] This will let you know where you stand. Loking back on it, I propably could have started with a less aggressive program, like Power 90. I'm happy to have made it through the program, and look forward to starting my 2nd round in mid-December. Finally, the on-line support, message boards, online workout buddies, meal planning, including shopping lists, make this program much easier to stay motivated with and do every day. Plus they offer a 30 day money back guarantee, which is pretty cool.

PAINFUL, I HATE IT, BUT I LOVE IT

5 Nov 2007 - corey of Tennessee, USA writes:

This DVD series is not for the faint of heart at all, well I pretty much have strong lower body strength so I do not use the DVD’s for legs, but the chest and back DVD, then the arms and shoulders, and the abs is real intense, these sets , is SO ^&(& hard, I mostly run 3 to 5 miles after weights but after working out to these DVD’s my body was telling me don’t even think about running you have done more than enough, And this DVD actually showed me how weak I was, because anyone can lift weights, but not everyone can pull your own body weight, I suggest anyone who is not use to push ups and pull ups, needs to practice before using this DVD set, because you will probably throw up or faint lol, but the chest and back, arms and shoulder, and abs, is a killer,

P90X - read this

4 Oct 2007 - James of Minnesota, USA writes:

I'm a triathlete (1/2 ironman distance), I wanted to try something for some strength and flexibility in the off-season and gave P90x a try. I don't follow infomercials or hype at all so I was skeptical. This program is excellent. Tony is a good instructor (not pompous or obnoxious, just fun and informative; not some psycho gung-ho animal yelling at you) and he's working his tail off while you do - e.g. preaching what he's teaching. I started out and stuck with it for Phase 1. No lie, I could not complete all the routines. but the progress I made between weeks 1 and 3 was noteable. I'm 38 so my body is not a 17-year old's where strength gains are going to be easy. However, i refuse to let me money get pissed away with this purchase so I'm sticking it out for Phase 2 now. In conclusion: Am I satisfied w/my purchase - definite yes.

It Works

3 Oct 2007 - Jimmy of Michigan, USA writes:

Currently on day 45 and am thrilled with the results. I don't really follow the diet plan they provide but I do think I eat pretty healthy without it. I did have to adjust my diet a little (Eat more) so I did not crash during the workouts. I was also a skeptic about the recovery drink at first. But after the first few workouts I was so soar I could hardly get out of bed. I went online to see what could be done about this. I read some info on recovery drinks and how they help with soar muscles so I bit the bullet and ordered it. It does make a difference. The workouts are hard and it is a big commitment but it is so worth it. I wish I had done this long ago.
