Interesting, but common knowledge

I got this book at a local second hand book store and paid 1 dollar for it. I got my money's worth. Book is full of interesting little tidbits for common folk, and it's not (in my opinion)intended for professionals or people who write about this stuff for a living. I found the book interesting, but not earth shattering. Most info is common knowledge, however as I said, for 1 dollar, I got my money's worth.

I write about health and nutrition for a living, and so read voraciously on the subject -- which is why I bought this book (and two others; the free one they were offering with it, and another they upsold me on.) I confess I'm unimpressed, and will be sending the books back. Perhaps these books would be more interesting and useful to someone with less background, but as I flip through, I notice a couple of things -- first of all, a lack of any coherant advice or strategy; they'll have low fat, low protein guru McDougall giving his expert advice right next to Drs. Michael and Mary Dan Eades, who wrote Protein Power, and advocate a low carb/high protein diet. How is the reader to know which is correct? Secondly, when in doubt the book falls back on "eat a low fat diet" -- advice which I consider to be long since debunked, and even dangerous. I was all ready to like these books, but I'm disappointed. They are, however, better than that pile of dung Kevin Trudeau is selling.
