First make of TBT is excellent!

18 May 2008 - Anne of NC, USA writes:

I have owned my Body By Jake TBT for about 15 years now. It was one of the first models that came out and is an EXCELLENT piece of equipment. Very well made at that time. I found just working out on it for 5-10 minutes most days of the week allowed me to drop several pant sizes within 3 months. It is great for thighs, buns and a good workout for biceps and pectorals. The only draw back is 2 of the bands have broken, but it did take several years before it happened. So the breaking isn't the issue, the issue is WHERE does one find replacement bands? As one reviewer wrote, the machine is useless without the bands. I'll keep searching as it is a great machine and such a short time of working out on it does bring great results for me!

Love this Product

8 Mar 2007 - Janet of Pennsylvania, USA writes:

I have owned this product for 6 or 7 years. Although I don't use it faithfully, I have used in spurts over the years. Since I hate to exercise and don't like weights, this is great. Just enough. The only thing that broke were the bands which can easily be replaced. They could be a little less expensive but at least you can get them. I'm looking for bands now. That is how I came upon this site.

Can't replace resistance bands

16 May 2006 - Sherry of Florida, USA writes:

I've had the TTBT for 2 yrs. It does what I want it to for resistance but is poorly made. All but the 25# band broke and I am unable to get replacements. It is useless w/o the bands. The website BBJ refers you to has the 800 not working and after inputing the info all I got was an e-mail that they got my info. It has been 2 wks w/o any correspondence after sending an e-mail to address provided. I have found that BBJ products are inferior and customer service is VERY poor. I also have the Ab Sissors which is pretty good. I had the Cardio Crusier which is poorly made. I had to give away since I couldn't sell it for even $25. I've had a Tony Little Gazelle for over 7 yrs and love it. His products wear well. Don't waste your money w/BBJ unless you can pick one up cheap.

Never Again

14 Mar 2006 - Anonymous of Michigan, USA writes:

I purchased this machine in April of 2004, and it was destroyed by December of 2005. Like many other reviewers, the pivot arm cracked and bent; but I'll go one better by adding that I managed to sustain a pretty deep gouge into my legs when the leg stand snapped off during my workout. For what it's worth, it delievered a fun, easy, low-impact workout when it was operating; ideally suited for toning instead of building extreme muscle mass, but a really fun, compact machine. However, finding only dodgey customer support and a "no longer covered under warranty" reply to my later emails after a total product failure was disappointing. If this product was ever redesigned with a better rocker arm mechanism and sturdier tubal steel, it would be a steal, but as it stands, I personally think it should be avoided at all costs. On the bright side, I've got a dynamite scar now :)

I purchased this piece of equipment in the Spring of 2004 and have been using it 3x's a week ever since. It's excellent. The only thing that has ever broken was a #10 band which was replaced in a few weeks. I love it.

I've had my machine for about 15 years.  After reading the reviews here, I  concluded that the construction was better on the 1st generation machine like I have as I have not had the problems mentioned.  Mine looks a little different than the ones pictured on Jake's website.  The bands have broken though.   I broke a 5 lb. band about 5 years ago and a 10 lb. band broke today.  But keep in mind that my machine is 15 years old.  My wife mainly uses it now as I bought a real home gym.  For what it costs and what it does, it is not a bad machine but it is light duty and it sounds like the newer ones are even lighter duty.  It is made by DP by the way so you may be able to buy bands directly from them.

6 Aug 2005 - Mark of Pennsylvania, USA writes:

Good for for people that want to tone up and tighten their muscles but it has limitations.  Greatest drawback: the power bands break after a short time and it takes time to get replacements that are not readily available except from the manufacturer.  Not good for people over 6 ft.  You get what what you pay for.  You will need something else for serious body building.

I've had the machine since Jan 2003.  The machine is poorly constructed.  The weld on the pivot arm broke after a few months.  It was replaced after numerous calls and emails. The power bands break regularly.  I've been waiting for months for replacement power bands.  I definitely would not recommend this product.  Jake is a crook

I'm puzzled as to why I can't find any information on this product - reviews etc. anywhere. I've owned a Total Body Trainer for just over a month. I use it everyday and am exceptionally pleased. The machine is extremely compact and light, yet the excersizes cover the full range. This is the first machine (I've had a few) that actually works for me. The video and instructions that come with it are excellent and the price is very reasonable. I can highly recommend this machine for those of you who are considering it, but like me, were unable to find any independent reviews.

I purchased the machine in early November 2002.  I really like the machine.  It gives my upper body a good workout.  I bought the machine to help rehabilitate my shoulder after an injury.  My complaint is that after 6 weeks the pivot arm cracked where it is welded to the pivot tube.  The company has a toll free number which I called and they are going to send me a replacement arm free of charge.  I hope that the new arm lasts longer then 6 weeks since the warrenty is for only 1 year.

I never had this much satisfaction from a home exercise machine. I have previously bought and tried a few of the very famous exercise machines. Most of them offered me no real effect on my muscles. When the machine helped me develop my muscles, it also gave some kind of discomfort and pressure on my joints and spine. This machine amazingly relieves the pressure on your spine. This machine is really effective for arm, chest and abdominon without giving you discomfort. I Originally bought this for my 60-year-old mom and dad. I wanted them to start exercise and stay strong and healthy enough not to live at a nursing home later. They never exercised before. However they are now addicted to working on this machine everyday.

- Bill of North Carolina, USA writes:

I purchased this machine in September 2002 and in four months I am on my third pivot arm.  Three bands have also been replaced.  The leg extender is tilted to one side as well (since the bands fit on only one side).   Although I have enjoyed using the machine and the company has been prompt in replacing parts, the bottom line is the machine is poorly constructed and will not hold up to moderate use.  If you not interested in making warranty claims and are looking for a machine that will last, I suggest avoiding this unit.

I actually was on this site to checkout the reviews for the Gazelle Freestyle Elite which I have on order and noticed the reviews for this product.   I've had it for over 10 years and use it on and off when I'm in the mood.  My biggest problem with it is that it doesn't suit tall people very well (I'm 6'5).  The position of the exercise arms don't sit properly to do the exercies as described.   The leg presses are impossible.  I would only recommend this machine for those who are under 6' tall.

- Anne of Colorado, USA writes:

I am very disappointed in this product and the company.   I ordered it in November.  It too over 5 weeks to arrive. I then returned it, because it seemed very poorly constructed and I didn't seem to be getting a very tough work out.  I have been wating 3 weekd for the company to return the amount to my credit card, but it hasn't been done.  I have now called my credit card company to dispute the charges, as the company continues to charge my credit card.  I have called and called the toll free number and have yet to speak with a live person.  I have sent repeated emails and have simply been told they don't have it.  I recommend shipping this UPS, certified or insured, as I failed to do so.  Luckily, my credit card company is backing me.  Overall....try another form of exercise.  This machine and the company aren't worth the cost or hassle.

I bought the trainer in Dec 02 and are somewhat satisfied with what it does. But the bands are a problem. They seem to be to weak. I've broken 2 of the #10 bands and are waiting for them to send new ones. It's been about 2 weeks and have not  gotten them as yet.

Purchased the Total Body Trainer in May of 2002. I really like the workouts. Having had two back surgeries, I needed something to strengthen my lower back and abdominal areas. The design is excellent. The execution is poor. The metal used is too thin and of inferior quality. The original unit came with a bolt that was threaded across the entire length. This caused early wear of the leg press pivot sleeve and eventualy total collapse of the leg press. The upper pivot arm broke after seven months. All pieces have been replaced and were sent by two day air at no charge. Customer support is excellent. I am having a structual engineer making modifications to the machine so the early wear factor should not be a problem again.

I received my body trainer from a neighbor who didn't like it and just wanted it gone. This was May 2000. I tried it and found that for a 200+ pound man it was no exercise at all. I could lean forward and felt very little tension. So little in fact that after 3 weeks of due dilligence it showed me as much improvement as 3 weeks of lifting the tv remote. Save your money!
